(Adapted from an essay by Trevor Leggett)
Through judo training, we learn that our bodies have limitations. We are weak in certain respects.
In judo we learn how to minimize our weaknesses and how to develop beyond them. We must not try to avoid the faults but instead, cultivate a proper method of dealing with them.
For instance, if I am right-handed and I am left to my own devices, I would simply use right-sided techniques. But a good sensei will make me develop some left-sided techniques as well.
This will help to bring to life the left side of my body which is relatively neglected in everyday life. Judo should help us achieve balance, not only on the mat but in life as well.
